| Japan Research/Writing/Video Assignment Prompt The dropping of The Bomb on Hiroshima was an emotional event for millions of people all around the world, and it was a politically important event, which is still influencing politics and global relations today. We will be reading the book Hiroshima by John Hersey and the effects of the Atomic Bomb. First, we need to understand the people of Japan. What is their heritage, their culture, and their place in the world since the bombing of Hiroshima? Assignment You will be creating a 7-10 minute video segment, which will be incorporated into a complete video. You should have visual materials the video camera will record as you narrate your segment. In other words, we’re not going to just take a video of you giving a report. You should prepare some relevant visual materials that can be filmed as you read your report. They can be pictures, timelines, models, drawings, and photographs---anything visual and relevant.
Getting Started Use any resources you can find to get information on your topic: books, magazines, encyclopedias, movies and videos, travel brochures, interviews, etc. You will also have a chance to use the Internet. I have compiled a hotlist for you to use, which will cut down on search time. Make sure you take notes on the information you find.
Prewriting Your first step is to select the information you wish to use from the notes you have taken. You must choose your information carefully. Take your notes and circle the information you will include in your video segment. Next, organize your information. Put it in a logical order that will be easily understood by your audience. You will need to make an outline that you will give to me prior to your presentation. You may need to revise your outline several times as you think about your material and your presentation. After you have chosen the content for your segment, think about what visuals you will use.
Drafting Follow your outline and write out exactly what you will say to narrate your segment about your topic. Your draft is what you will be giving your presentation from if you choose. I will only be collecting the outline. Make your presentation as interesting as possible.
